Six arrested during demonstration in South Lake Union

SEATTLE — Seattle police said five men and a woman were arrested during a demonstration Sunday afternoon in Seattle’s South Lake Union area.

Police said a group of demonstrators, who were on their way to Mytrle Edwards Park from the Arboretum, tried to break through a police bicycle line to access the freeway at Fairview Avenue North and North Republican Street.

One of the people marching reportedly assaulted an officer, and when officers attempted to arrest the person, others tried to prevent the arrest, police said.

Police said pepper spray was used and they arrested six people.

A Seattle fire crew was called to treat the people but they declined the treatment.

All six were taken to the Seattle Police Department’s west precinct and later booked into the King County Jail, police said.

Police did not say what the demonstration was for, however, KIRO 7 found a Facebook video post by the Protectors of the Salish Sea. The marchers were chanting, playing drums as they walked through the streets.

The demonstration ended where the marchers were arrested, police said.
