SEATTLE — Golden Gardens Beach is reopening to the public after it was closed last week due to a sewer overflow.
Officials with Seattle/King County Public Health had issued a no-contact advisory but new water samples show the level of bacteria had improved greatly, according to Seattle Public Utilities.
Previous samples taken from the water had revealed elevated levels of bacteria, officials with Seattle Public Utilities said.
Seattle Public Utilities estimates the overflow volume at about 165,000 gallons.
The public had been advised to avoid any water activities at the beach. Signs were posted at public entry points.
Any contact with fecal-contaminated waters can result in gastroenteritis, skin rashes, upper respiratory infections and other illnesses, health officials said.
