Service restored after outage affects 911 service in Pierce County

South Sound 911

A network outage affected 911 service at South Sound 911 on Monday.

South Sound 911 issued an alternate number for those with emergencies in Pierce County who could not get through when calling 911.

South Sound 911 said the network outage was caused by a cut fiber and redundancy failure.

The Pierce County Sheriff’s Department said the problem appeared to be affecting South Sound 911′s new building, so dispatchers worked from the old building until the problem was resolved.

Calls to 911 were later routed to the new building.

Shortly after 2 p.m., South Sound 911 tweeted the problem was fixed.
