SEQUIM, Wash. — Homeowners in Sequim held a suspect at gunpoint during a recent burglary attempt until deputies arrived and arrested him, the Clallam County Sheriff's Office said.
Deputies said they were called to a burglary on Highway 101 near Sherbourne Road Tuesday around 5 p.m. During their response, dispatch told them that the homeowners had arrived at the property and were holding the suspect at gunpoint.
The homeowners told deputies that “there was an alarm the day prior where they found a window to one of their shops broken. One of the homeowners was armed with a pistol when they responded to the alarm today and found (the suspect) on the property next to one of the shops standing next to a pull cart,” the Clallam County Sheriff’s Office said.
Police identified the suspect as 38-year-old Shane Lowe, of Port Angeles.
Deputies said that when Lowe saw the homeowners he ran toward his vehicle, which was parked a short distance away on Highway 101.

“One of the homeowners fired his pistol into the ground, telling Lowe to stop. Lowe stopped and the homeowners were able to detain him at gunpoint until deputies arrived,” the Sheriff’s Office said.
Deputies said their investigation revealed that the items in the pull cart taken by Lowe had been stolen from two different shops on the property.
The value of the items was estimated by deputies to be about $3,500.
Deputies said Lowe was arrested and booked into jail on suspicion of second-degree burglary and attempted theft in the second degree.
