Second petition to recall Snohomish County sheriff gets go-ahead

The State Supreme Court decided Thursday the second recall petition against Snohomish County Sheriff Adam Fortney can go forward.

Four issues were considered but the court only found grounds for two.

One issue claims that Fortney, “Endangered the peace and safety of the community and violated his statutory duties…,” by refusing to enforce Gov. Jay Inslee’s “Stay Home, Stay Healthy” order early in the pandemic.

The second issue states Fortney violated his duties and “Exercised discretion in a manifestly unreasonable manner…” by rehiring three deputies who had been fired for misconduct.
