Seattle police recover stolen car, arrest felon with stolen handgun

SEATTLE — Officers with the Seattle Police Department arrested a felon in possession of a stolen handgun while sitting in a stolen car in the Capitol Hill neighborhood early Sunday.

The department said officers saw two people sitting in a 2018 Volvo with out-of-state license plates in the 900 block of East Pine Street around 2:30 a.m.

A check of the license plates showed the vehicle had been reported stolen in Seattle about a week earlier.

"As officers were taking the occupants out of the car, they observed the male in the driver's seat drop something in the back passenger seat," Seattle police said in a blotter post.

When the two occupants were in custody, police said they located a loaded Glock handgun on the ground of the rear passenger seat.

Police checked the handgun’s serial number and found it had been reported stolen in Seattle in 2014.

"At the precinct, it was determined that one of the men, age 38, was a convicted felon and on active federal probation. He was the individual who was seen dropping the gun in the backseat," police said.

The 38-year-old man was booked into the King County Jail for investigation of a possession of a stolen vehicle and investigation of possession of a stolen firearm.

The other occupant of the vehicle, a 29-year-old man, was identified and released.

Police said the vehicle was impounded and the gun was submitted into evidence.
