Seattle police officers rescue stranded duck

SEATTLE — A duck stranded in the service area of a bridge was rescued by Seattle police officers last week.

Last Thursday, the caretaker at the University Bridge asked for help to free a merganser duck that had become stranded in the bridge’s service pit.

Several animal rescue groups were contacted first but were unavailable, so Seattle Police Harbor Patrol officers climbed down into the pit.

The duck tried to avoid the officer’s net but couldn’t get enough of a running start to fly out.

Wanting to get away from the pesky officer’s net, it finally dove down and swam out to open water.
