Seattle police arrest man for second DUI in one week

SEATTLE — Officers with the Seattle Police Department arrested a 38-year-old man on suspicion of driving under the influence for the second time in one week.

After an arrest for DUI earlier in the week, police said the 38-year-old picked up his car from an impound lot on Wednesday night.

Police said the man backed into another vehicle at the impound lot and fled the scene.

"A short time later, when the man returned to his home after midnight, he found the very same officer that had arrested him for DUI days earlier waiting for him," Seattle police said in a blotter post.

Police said instead of surrendering, the man left his house and parked in the driveway of his parents' home in the Broadmoor neighborhood.

The man reportedly told police he wasn’t going to jail again and refused to exit his parked vehicle.

Police put a spike strip behind the wheels of his parked vehicle and SPD negotiators spent two hours attempting to negotiate with the man.

"The man continued to huff whippets, small containers of nitrous oxide, the entire time until a team of officers moved in to take the man into custody," Seattle police said.

When police forced their way into the vehicle and handcuffed the man, they said hundreds of “green and silver nitrous oxide containers” fell out of the vehicle onto the driveway.

The 38-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence, resisting arrest and obstruction and was booked into the King County Jail.
