Seattle named 8th costliest commute in US

A recent report from LendingTree determined which U.S. cities have the most expensive commutes, and Seattle appearing 8th on the list of 100.

The data was compiled using the U.S. Census Bureau to multiply the average hourly earnings by total time spent commuting, then dividing by an estimated annual hours worked to arrive at an annual opportunity cost.

Fremont, California, ranked number 1 with an average round-trip daily commute of 73 minutes and an annual commute cost of $15,065.

The least costliest commute, Tulsa, Oklahoma, averaged a round-trip daily commute of 37 minutes and an annual commute cost of $3,255.

Seattle, the only Top 10 city in the Northwest, ranked number 8 with an average round-trip daily commute of 57 minutes and an annual commute cost of $9,829.

3. Jersey City, New Jersey

4. Washington, D.C.

5. Arlington, Virginia

6. New York, New York

7. San Jose, California

8. Seattle, Washington

9. Irvine, California

10. Oakland, California
