Seattle Mariners will host 2023 MLB All-Star Game

SEATTLE — The Seattle Mariners will host the 2023 MLB All-Star Game at T-Mobile Park.

The announcement was officially made during a news conference Thursday afternoon at the Space Needle.

Along with the All-Star Game, Seattle will be the host site for the Futures Game, Home Run Derby and additional festivities throughout the city.

On hand were baseball commissioner Rob Manfred, Hall of Famers Ken Griffey Jr. and Edgar Martinez, along with Mariners chairman John Stanton and president of business operations Catie Griggs. Seattle mayor Jenny Durkan and King County Executive Dow Constantine were in attendance.

Earlier in the week, several reports said Seattle would host the All-Star Game, but the organization did not confirm this until Thursday.

Seattle will host the All-Stars for the third time.

The ballpark, then known as Safeco Field, opened in 1999. It was the site of the American League’s 4-1 victory in 2001 and part of a streak of 12 AL wins around a 7-7 tie in 2002. The game marked the final All-Star appearances of Cal Ripken Jr., who scored a home run, and of Tony Gwynn.

The 1979 All-Star Game was at the old Kingdome and was won 7-6 by the National League.
