Seattle Mariners donate $2 million to boost local vaccination efforts

SEATTLE — The Seattle Mariners have announced a $2 million donation to support UW Medicine’s vaccination efforts at Harborview Medical Center.

The funding, which will go towards community outreach strategies and mobile vaccinations, will also help raise awareness on the safety and importance of the vaccine among Black, Hispanic and multiracial communities.

“Ensuring that every person is both willing and able to be vaccinated is critical to our community’s ability to end the COVID-19 pandemic,” said John Stanton, Mariners chairman and managing partner. “The Mariners are proud to join UW Medicine to both increase vaccine willingness and reduce the barriers to vaccination in our region.”

Current and former Mariners players are participating in these community awareness campaigns, including Edgar Martinez, Alvin Davis, Yusei Kikuchi, Jose Marmolejos, manager Scott Servais and more.

The “This is our shot to strike out COVID-19” awareness campaign will be recorded in English, Spanish and Japanese, highlighting how vaccines can keep the community safe now and for the future.
