Seattle man charged in alleged assault of random victim with baseball bat

SEATTLE — A man who lists a homeless shelter as a his last known address is charged with assaulting a man who walked by an RV in South Seattle.

It’s not clear that the suspect had any prior association with the victim -- and the suspect has a violent history that includes a random attack on a Metro bus passenger in 2018.

The incident is alleged to have happened around 3:45 p.m. on May 7 in the 2200 block of South Walker Street.

According to charging documents, the victim was walking past a RV parked on the street when Harold Glover, 25, came out of the RV carrying a baseball bat.

Police said Glover yelled out “I’m gonna pop you right now!” chased after the victim and then hit him on the back of his legs multiple times.

A witness of the assault reported the incident to 911 and noted that Glover was wearing tan slacks and no shirt.

A second witness reported seeing the assault from inside his office and said Glover struck and kicked the victim while he was lying on the ground.

The witnesses reported seeing Glover leave the scene heading west on Walker Street toward 22nd Avenue South.

A K-9 unit was called to the scene and followed a track back to Glover’s RV.

In charging documents, police said they knocked on the door of the RV and announced that it was going to be impounded.

Officers said they later found Glover hiding under a false floor, wearing only underwear.

The owner of the RV, identified as someone other than Glover, gave officers permission to search it and police said they found a pair of pants and a baseball bat under the false floor.

Two witnesses confirmed Glover as the assailant in the assault. Glover was placed under arrest and was booked in to the King County Jail on suspicion of second-degree assault.

First responders said they noticed the victim had obvious bruising on his outer left thigh and transported him to Harborview Medical Center for additional treatment.

Glover remains in the King County Jail in lieu of a $30,000 bail. His arraignment, where he will enter a plea, is expected later this year.

Glover’s criminal history includes convictions for assault, domestic violence and attempted malicious harassment, among others. Prosecutors suggested that Glover is a likely to commit violent acts in the future.
