Seattle Rep. Pramila Jayapal does not plan to attend the inauguration of President-elect Donald Trump.

In a news release on Sunday, her office wrote that she will stay in the Seattle-area district and hear from constituents who are immigrants and immigrant advocates and discuss a plan of action moving forward.

More than two dozen Democratic lawmakers are boycotting President-elect Donald Trump's inauguration, particularly after revelations of Russia's alleged meddling in the 2016 election and his rebuke of civil rights icon John Lewis, CNN reports.

In a direct reply to Donald Trump on January 14, Jayapal wrote "@repjohnlewis stands for best of everything in America. If anyone knows about action not words, it's him. #ImWithJohn"

Jayapal wrote in a statement to media outlets, “My decision to be here in the district with my constituents who are truly terrified that they will no longer have a home in this city and country was not, at the time, a boycott of the inauguration.  I recognize that President-elect Trump will be sworn in and he will be the President of this country, whether we like it or not.  But I believe my first responsibility is to listen to my constituents and to be with them, through the darkest of times.”

The congresswoman attended a Still We Rise rally after the election in November, at which leaders included Seattle Mayor Ed Murray and Councilwoman Kshama Sawant.

At that rally, Sawant called for a nationwide shutdown during Trump's inauguration.

The Facebook event indicates that more than 11,000 people are interested in participating in the demonstration that’s scheduled for 5 p.m. on Friday.
