Seahawks prepare for Cam Newton and Panthers offense

RENTON, Wash. — The Seattle Seahawks have dominated the series for much of the Cam Newton era, and have won five of their last seven matchups against the Panthers.

But the Seahawks know it will be a huge challenge trying to slow down Newton and the Panthers offense on Sunday in Charlotte, N.C.

"The offense alone is a big challenge just because (of) the zone-read option,” Bobby Wagner, a Seahawks linebacker, said. “You have to respect Cam as a runner."

"He's rushed for, you know, 350 something yards already (this season) so he's involved with it as much as ever,” said Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll.

"You don't want to get him going,” said Wagner. “You don't want to misread something (and) let him get 10, 15 yards and make a good pass. He (Newton) seems to feed off of good plays."

If Carolina were to lose the game on Sunday, both teams would be 6-5 which means Seattle would secure a potentially crucial head-to-head tiebreaker.

As NFL fans have learned this season, when the Seahawks travel long distances they still find a way to get the job done.

"It's not just what you see in the locker room after a win, it's what these guys do on a daily basis,” said Carroll. “They're really good to be around. I'm thankful that they make it fun for me. I'm enjoying the heck out of it (and) I'm lucky to be here."
