Seahawks elevate Shaquem Griffin to active roster ahead of Cowboys game

SEATTLE — The Seahawks on Saturday announced they have elevated linebacker Shaquem Griffin and cornerback Ryan Neal from their practice squad to the active roster ahead of Sunday’s game against the Dallas Cowboys.

No corresponding moves were needed as a new rule this year allows teams to elevate up to two players from a practice squad for a game. Both Neal and Griffin will revert back to the practice squad on Monday.

Griffin, twin brother of Seahawks cornerback Shaquill Griffin, instantly became a fan favorite when he was drafted in the fifth round of the 2018 NFL Draft. He had his left hand amputated at age 4, but did not let that stop him on his path to stardom at the University of Central Florida and eventually the NFL.

Griffin was on the Seahawks active roster for each of his first two seasons. He has played primarily special teams in the past but should help a Seahawks pass rush that will be without Bruce Irvin for the first time since he tore his ACL.

In 35 career games, Griffin has recorded 18 total tackles and one sack.

Sunday’s game against the Cowboys kicks off at 1:25 p.m.
