SDOT crews go over snow routes preparing for upcoming weather changes

As Seattle prepares for a weekend storm system, the city’s Department of Transportation is also making weather preparations. On Thursday, SDOT crews went over their winter snow routes in snowplows.

“We’re not typically a city that gets icy, snow conditions year-round, where we’re getting practice, practice, practice throughout the months. That’s why it’s so important to get out here, exercise our muscles and provide some opportunities for our drivers and our equipment to be run through the paces. So we’re as prepared as we possibly can be,” says SDOT director Darren Morgan.

Morgan tells KIRO 7 that, unlike some city agencies dealing with staffing issues, SDOT is fully staffed to handle any upcoming weather changes.

“We’ve got some flooding concerns around the region, we’ve got gusty winds predicted, and cold temperatures next week. We get a little exercise getting ready for all types of winter weather conditions over the next seven days,” says Morgan.

He’s also asking for local homeowners to get prepared with storm drain cleanup, clearing walking paths, and monitoring conditions.

“Pay close attention to the forecast. And get ready for what winter weather throws at us this year,” adds Morgan.

Washington Department of Transportation announced Thursday evening that because of weather conditions, ‘Revive I-5′ work will not take place this weekend.
