Renton police arrest mother, daughter for alleged robbery and carjacking

Renton — A mother and daughter were arrested Tuesday from a carjacking in Renton that occurred on Monday, according to the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office.

On Monday, Renton Police responded to reports of a carjacking at a store parking lot on Renton Center Way South West, according to Renton Police.

When they arrived, officers were told that the victim was putting a young child in the backseat of their car when two Black women approached them, threatened them with a gun, and demanded they get out of the car. While the victim was trying to get the child out of the backseat, the women started to drive off with the car, dragging the victim and causing minor injuries. The car was seen heading south toward the freeway, Renton Police said.

The women were identified from video footage and the incident was shared with regional law enforcement to be on the lookout.

On Tuesday morning, an apartment manager in Everett called 911 to report three suspicious people and police were able to identify the stolen car. The women left the apartment before Everett police arrived.

The news of the stolen SUV was broadcast to surrounding agencies and was spotted, by a Snohomish County Sheriff’s Deputy, turning into a McDonald’s in Mukilteo.

One deputy tried to cut off the vehicle near the drive-through. The driver went to change direction, but a second deputy cut them off. Pinned in the middle, the women had nowhere to go, according to the Snohomish County Sherriff’s Office.

Snohomish deputies, with the help of Everett police officers, stopped the three people in the car. Police said the woman who was driving the stolen SUV and her juvenile daughter were the same suspects in the Renton carjacking.

They were taken into custody. Police also found a stolen handgun in the car.

Renton police will continue investigating and said potential charges may include car theft, kidnapping, robbery, and reckless endangerment.
