Record heat expected in Seattle and W. Washington on Wednesday

Seattle’s record high for Wednesday is 86 degrees – and we’ll likely break that record.

KIRO 7’s PinPoint weather team thinks we may even reach the 90-degree mark on Wednesday, though we also could fall just shy.

“We'll definitely be in the 90s in many of our foothill and south sound/south interior communities away from the water,” Meteorologist Nick Allard said.

A wrinkle in the forecast is projected atmospheric instability on Wednesday afternoon. That could cause a few mountain thunderstorms in the afternoon.

However, moisture looks to be quite limited so there might not be any thunderstorm activity at all. If thunderstorms do light up in the mountains on Wednesday afternoon, there is a threat of lightning-sparked fires.

The heat backs off Thursday into next weekend, and no rainfall is in store.
