Puyallup police arrest masked man for indecent exposure, trespassing after posting special bulletin

PUYALLUP, Wash. — UPDATE:

A masked man spotted prowling a Puyallup retirement community has been arrested, after someone recognized his clothing and sent a tip to police. On Monday police revealed cameras captured the man exposing himself as he approached the doors of homes in the gated community.

“What we observed on the video was very disturbing to us,” said Puyallup police captain Jason Visnaw. “We don’t know what his intentions were but it was enough for us to be alarmed and want to get him into custody as soon as possible.”

Police said though he was wearing a mask the distinctive coat the man was wearing led to a tip from someone who recognized it.

“Through that we were able to identify some other features in the photos that matched some features from this individual’s social media accounts,” said Visnaw.

The suspect was arrested on suspicion of misdemeanor indecent exposure and expected in Puyallup municipal court next week.

ORIGINAL STORY:

Images captured by a home surveillance camera show a man in a mask prowling near a residence in the 400 block of 43rd Avenue Southeast in Puyallup early Wednesday. Police want to know who he is.

“Yeah I would say he’s suspicious,” said Puyallup resident Norm Pollard when he was shown the pictures. “Yeah he does,” agreed his wife Norma. “Especially with that thing over his face.”

Puyallup police want to find the man and are asking for the public's help to track him down. They hope his distinctive clothing, including a jacket reading Nation Motors on the back, will help someone recognize him.

Puyallup police Capt. Jason Visnaw says the man is wanted in connection with a crime, but said he couldn't give any details about the incident. Police say they want someone to identify him or for the man to come forward and contact detectives.

“We don’t have enough information to say that the public should be afraid,” Visnaw told KIRO 7. “We are concerned enough that we really want to have contact with him as soon as possible.”

In a bulletin release on the department’s website, police asked anyone with information to contact 253-770-3343 or tips@ci.puyallup.wa.us.

And they warned, “If you see someone wearing this clothing or have seen this person very recently, please call 911 right away. Do not attempt to approach the subject yourself.”
