CLALLAM BAY, Wash. — Officials say a fight involving scores of inmates Wednesday evening at a state prison in Clallam Bay was stopped by a warning shot.

The Peninsula Daily News reports the Clallam Bay Corrections Center remained on lockdown Thursday.

Agency spokesman Jeremy Barclay says 81 inmates in a prison population of about 825 were involved in the prison-yard fracas.

Barclay says before the shot was fired, corrections officers deployed pepper spray but that failed to quell the disturbance.

Barclay says five inmates were taken offsite for treatment of injuries and that four returned to the prison Thursday. He says one person remained hospitalized with a broken jaw.

No officers were injured.

Barclay says officials are investigating the cause of the incident and that the lockdown will be slowly eased.

Inmate visitation was cancelled for Friday and Saturday.
