Pregnant Tacoma mother dies from injuries after assault, police now investigating it as homicide

A pregnant Tacoma mother who was assaulted last week has died from her injuries, and the attack is now being investigated as a homicide, police said.

Tacoma Fire medics responded around 7:30 p.m. Jan. 10 to reports of a woman who hasn’t breathing inside a home, police said.

When they arrived, medics were told the woman had been injured in a physical dispute with the father of her children. The 27-year-old woman was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The 31-year-old male suspect was detained and later booked into Pierce County Jail for investigation of first degree assault.

The woman died of her injuries five days later, and police are now investigating it as a homicide.
