Police: Suspect flees traffic stop, changes into woman's bathrobe

AUBURN, Wash. — Officers with the Auburn Police Department said they found a man who fled a traffic stop hiding in a minivan wearing a woman’s bathrobe.

Police said the man was stopped for speeding near 8th Street NE and Harvey Road around 8:30 a.m. Wednesday.

"After a short conversation with (the officers) the (suspect) decided he had somewhere else he needed to be and took off," a spokesperson for the Police Department wrote in a Facebook post.

Police said the man dumped his car near the Amberview Apartment complex and fled on foot.

Alert neighbors told officers that they saw the man running through the complex, police said.

“A few minutes later another alert neighbor flagged down (an officer) to report that Sketchy Dude had just run through the area of SE 323rd Street and 105th Place,” police said.

Police said they began searching the area and noticed a man curled up inside a minivan.

The suspect originally had been wearing a red T-shirt, but police said he stole a woman’s bathrobe when he was running through the apartments and was wearing it inside in an attempt to disguise himself.

Police eventually entered the minivan and took the suspect into custody.

“There is only a certain type of man that can pull off making a woman’s bathrobe look good, (and the man) was not one of them,” police said.

The man was booked into jail on suspicion of driving with a suspended license, reckless driving, obstructing a law enforcement officer, resisting arrest, vehicle trespass and theft.
