Police: Man steals cherry picker truck with worker inside bucket

A man was arrested Monday night after police said he allegedly stole a cherry picker truck with a worker inside the bucket and drove the truck away in downtown Seattle.

The incident happened in the 700 block of Fourth Avenue after 7 p.m.

Investigators said two workers were installing a sign on a light pole when a man approached them and started shouting at them "about taking gold out of the light poles."

The investigators said the man got into the cab of the truck, which still had keys in it and was running, put the vehicle into drive, and drove away.

One of the workers was in the bucket of the cherry picker.

The other worker called 911 and chased after the truck.

According to probable cause documents, the man drove a few blocks before the other worker caught up to the truck and pulled the man out of the vehicle. The worker held the man until police arrived.

Police took the man into custody.

The vehicle was recovered and had no significant damage.

According to probable cause documents, the worker inside the cherry picker bucket was hurt from being thrown around in the bucket as the truck drove away.

The man was booked into the King County Jail on suspicion of kidnapping and auto theft.
