Man robs woman in West Seattle home

SEATTLE — A man showed up in a woman’s West Seattle home Tuesday morning, demanding cash.

Seattle police said the woman was watching TV at her home in the 4400 block of 47th Avenue Southwest when she realized there was a stranger standing in her room. The man told the woman he wouldn’t hurt her and said he only wanted cash.

Police said she pointed the suspect toward her purse beside the bed. He took the cash and walked out. The woman described the man as 5 feet 8 inches tall, with a medium build and sandy blond hair.

Seattle police searched the areas with a K-9 unit but were unable to locate the suspect.

The victim said she was alright but did not want to be interviewed. Her neighbors said this type of crime is highly unusual on their block.

Margaret Wakelee said she was comforted knowing that the man did not seem to want to hurt anyone.

But “even knowing that somebody has been in your house is sort of strange,” Wakelee said.

The victim’s neighbor, Kelly Picinich, said she could not understand why the robber would target that woman.

“Glad I own a gun and have an alarm and have a dog. I mean, it could have been me. I mean, we might start – we might get cameras on the outside now,” Picinich said.
