Police: Man arrested in connection with assault after SWAT standoff

SEATTLE — A 48-year-old man suspected of assaulting two people is in custody after hiding in a house and forcing a standoff with police, authorities said.

Seattle police said a man called 911 before 10 a.m. after approaching the Rainier Beach Library to report he had been assaulted in his home by a stranger.

When officers arrived at the library and spoke with the man, he told them he had been assaulted and threatened by an armed suspect and had fled from his home, officials said.

Police went to the home to find the suspect, who was still inside, officials said. SWAT officers were called to talk the man out of the house, and he was arrested after 4 p.m., police said.

Officials said the victim was treated for minor injuries at the scene and a second person was taken to the hospital for treatment.

The suspect was booked into the King County Jail for investigation of assault and harassment.

The investigation is ongoing.
