Police investigating death at Seattle's 'Jungle' homeless camp

SEATTLE — Seattle homicide detectives are investigating after a man's body was found in the homeless camp known as The Jungle.

A passerby spotted the 55-year-old on the ground under I-5 near College Street and called 911 Tuesday.

How the man died is not yet known.

The Jungle, which references the greenbelt along I-5 south of I-90, has been a concern for decades.

In 2016, two people were killed and three others were shot at the camp. Prosecutors say two brothers went to the area to steal drugs and money when the shooting happened.

The killings put focus on the camp and the crime it attracts.

Later that year, the city cleared the homeless camp and relocated people about a half-mile away.

The state later fenced in the area of The Jungle that is on state-owned property.
