Seattle police arrested the driver who struck a child, a car and hit a power pole Sunday on West Dravus Street at 25th Avenue West in Magnolia. He was suspected of driving under the influence.

Police said about 3:10 p.m., a 59-year-old man who was driving a 2006 Dodge Charger drove on the sidewalk to pass a slower-moving car going down the hill in the 2500 block of West Dravus and hit a 9-year-old boy who was with his mother.

The driver continued down the street and rear-ended a car, injuring a 49-year-old female driver and her 16-year-old daughter, police said. The man continued driving and crossed over into the oncoming lane, jumped the curb and crashed into a power pole at the northwest corner of Dravus and 22nd Avenue West.

    He caused it to sheer.

When police and medics arrived, they quickly assessed the scene, and medics took the boy to Harborview Medical Center with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. The mother and daughter who were struck first were also taken to Harborview with non-life-threatening injuries.

The 59-year-old man had to extricated and was taken to Harborview.

Witnesses told KIRO 7 the driver went airborne while coming down the hill. Trees, bushes and grass were also damaged.

KIRO 7 spoke with people in the neighborhood who heard banging all the way down the street and were left without power.  Seattle City Light crews were called to restore electricity.

Seattle fire officials said their biggest challenge was safely pulling the driver out of the car because the crash almost brought down the power pole.

While at the hospital the man was evaluated and exhibited signs of impairment, officials said.

He was booked into the King County Jail on multiple counts for investigation of vehicular assault.

    The investigation is ongoing.
