Police investigating after fight broke out, shots fired at party in Lynden

Police are investigating after a fight broke out and shots were fired at a party in Lynden early Saturday morning.

Officers responded to a birthday party at a house located in the 300 block of West Pole Road shortly after 3 a.m. Many of the people attending the party fled when police arrived. Police did locate a man in his 20s or 30s with significant head and facial injuries.

Witnesses told police that the man had been assaulted physically with fists and sticks. In response, the man fired several rounds from a small handgun. The man was transported to St. Joseph's Hospital for significant head injuries.

Neighbors reported that 20-30 people were fighting and firing shots and a white car had sped away from the scene.

Police later found that the white car had crashed into a roundabout located at Guide Meridian and Ten Mile Road. The car had several occupants, including a man in his 20s with a gunshot wound to his leg. He was transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police are continuing to investigate.
