‘Religious differences’ spark large fight at Sikh temple, police say

RENTON, Wash. — “Religious differences” sparked a huge fight at a Sikh temple on Sunday afternoon in Renton, police said.

Firefighters and police were called to the 5200 block of Talbot Road South to investigate, and police said they found blood everywhere.

The big fight happened as the temple was hosting an event celebrating religious differences.

According to police, the disturbance started in the parking lot and continued inside the temple.

When a KIRO 7 crew arrived at the scene, their cameras captured fighting. And there appeared to be a lot of tension among groups — even after police showed up.

Police described it as absolute chaos when they got to the Gurudwara Singh Sabha of Washington.

Dozens of people were seen running and screaming, trying not to get hurt.

KIRO 7 found out that a man injured himself after grabbing a sword that was in the temple.

And another man was taken to Valley Medical Center after possibly being hit in the head with a baseball bat.

It is not the first time there have been tensions within the Sikh community, police said. Arguments reportedly first started about two to three weeks ago in Kent and carried over to Sunday.

Police said no one was taken into custody, and they’re continuing to investigate.
