A 28-year-old man was arrested in connection with a deadly hit-and-run crash that killed a Tacoma woman on May 15.
Detectives with the Tacoma Police Department say Jeremy Murray has been charged with a hit-and-run, attempting to elude a police vehicle, vehicular homicide and vehicular assault.
Sixty-seven-year-old Monica Santos was killed when her car was hit in the intersection of East 56 Street and McKinley Avenue East last Tuesday night. Her 53-year-old passenger was seriously injured.

Investigators say Murray led officers on a chase and nearly hit a pedestrian and several other cars before the fatal crash. Reports indicate he was driving on the wrong side of the road. Murray got out of his car and ran away after hitting Santos’ car, according to Tacoma police.
Sally Mary De Leon is Santos’ daughter. She describes her mother as a fun-loving, caring woman who was returning home from a night of dancing when she was hit by Murray. She was only five blocks from home.
“I don’t have hate for him, I feel sorry for him,” De Leon said in tears. “He was so scared that he had to run from the scene. He couldn’t even fess up, he couldn’t even do that.”
Tacoma police say officers received a tip that Murray would be in a tent near 64 and Tacoma Mall Boulevard where there are several homeless encampments. Officers, along with a homeless outreach team, surprised the suspect and took him into custody Tuesday. They believe he had been staying there for a while.
De Leon says she forgives Murray. The rest of her family hopes to seek the full extent of the law.
