PORT ANGELES, Wash. — An 81-year-old Port Angeles man was arrested for allegedly molesting a child in his family, the Clallam County Sheriff’s Office said.

The child told family members July 9 that they were sexually assaulted by the suspect, according to a release from the sheriff’s office.

The family members then confronted the man, who said he drank three bottles of wine and didn’t remember what happened with the victim.

The family went to the sheriff’s office July 10 to report the incident. The child was interviewed and disclosed more details of the alleged assault to a deputy.

Clallam County detectives learned that the suspect, who they identified as Port Angeles resident William Lattin, was planning on leaving Washington.

Deputies arrested Lattin on July 20 on suspicion of first-degree rape of a child and first-degree child molestation.

He was booked into the Clallam County Jail and the investigation was forwarded to the prosecutor’s office.
