Pedestrian struck by vehicle on SR 2 in Monroe

MONROE, Wash. — A pedestrian was struck by a vehicle Saturday night in Monroe.

Washington State Patrol Trooper Heather Axtman said the incident happened on Highway 2 at Main Street.

Troopers said the vehicle was going eastbound on SR 2 when a 53-year-old Sultan man walking on the shoulder was hit after stepping into the road.

The victim was taken to Providence Regional Medical Center in Everett with life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the vehicle stayed at the scene, Axtman said.

All lanes of traffic were blocked for several hours but were later reopened.

The crash is under investigation.
