Pedestrian struck, injured while crossing highway

LYNNWOOD, Wash. —

The collision happened at about 12:20 p.m. in the 16800 block of southbound Highway 99.

Police said witnesses told them a 32-year-old woman tried to cross the highway, forcing drivers to swerve to avoid hitting her.

However, one vehicle turning onto the highway from a parking lot struck the woman, police said.

The woman was taken to Harborview Medical in Seattle with serious injuries, medics with South County Fire said.

Police said the driver stayed on the scene, was not impaired and cooperated with officers.

The road reopened after being closed for the investigation.

Police also warned to always use a crosswalk to prevent incidents such as this one.
