Pedestrian fatally hit by car in Des Moines

DES MOINES, Wash. — Kent police said a driver hit and killed a pedestrian in Des Moines early Thursday.

Police said the driver was headed southbound on Pacific Highway South when they struck a pedestrian walking near Kent Des Moines Road about 12:30 a.m.

The victim, a man in his 30s, died at the scene.

Witnesses said the victim was wearing dark clothing and was not in a crosswalk.

Investigators said the driver is cooperating with police and does not appear to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

Southbound Pacific Highway South was closed during the investigation but reopened shortly after 5 a.m.
