Parents lost to COVID-19, Olympia woman relieved at Biden inauguration

After watching the Biden Inauguration this morning, Tracey Carlos of Olympia summed up her feelings.

“Relief. Honestly, um, just knowing that we managed to get here, to have Trump out and have somebody reasonable and respectful in office again, it’s just relief.”

Tracey lost both her parents Bob and Bano to COVID-19 early in the pandemic. She blames what she calls former President Donald Trump’s negligence in getting people to take it seriously.

And she now also blames Trump for the death of her grandmother- from a broken heart over the death of her parents.

“To lose your child, to know that you outlived even your child. It was, it was too much for her. It literally, it literally just was too much for her.”

Tracey was heartened by yesterday’s first national memorial for the 400,000 victims of COVID-19.

And by what President Joe Biden said in his inaugural address.

“Those 400,000 fellow Americans: moms, dads, husbands, wives, sons, daughters, friends, neighbors and co-workers. We will honor them by becoming the people and the nation we know we can and should be.”

Tracey started out as an Elizabeth Warren supporter, but became a Biden delegate in the belief that he could win the White House and get the nation back to normal.

“What it’s gonna really be is, the minute I can go to a meeting and it’s not on Zoom or go to a friend’s house or hug someone outside of my pod, you know? Um, that’s when I know we’re succeeding.”
