One killed in crash on busy road in Kent

KENT, Wash. — A fatal crash involving a semi-truck and a car has closed a busy street in Kent Wednesday morning.

It happened shortly after 7 a.m. on Orillia Road at South 212th Street in Kent.

King County Road Services said Orillia Road will remain closed in both directions between South 200th Street and 42nd Avenue South until sometime Wednesday afternoon.

Kent police said so far, the investigation shows that the driver of the car, who was traveling east on Orillia, slid into oncoming lanes of traffic and was hit by the semi-truck. The driver, a 74-year-old Seattle man, was pronounced dead at the scene. He was the only person inside the car.

Police said the driver of the semi-truck, a 59 year-old man, showed no signs of being impaired.

Video from Chopper 7 showed a car in the ditch with its passenger side destroyed. A jackknifed semi-truck with its hood ripped off was in the road, along with debris from the crash.
