One found dead after Tacoma apartment fire

TACOMA, Wash. — One person was found dead after a fire broke out in a second-floor apartment in Tacoma early Monday.

Firefighters were called to the building in the 6300 block of North 26th Street around 2:30 a.m. and found flames and smoke coming from the unit.

Crews said the flames spread to a third-floor unit and the whole complex was evacuated.

When firefighters entered the second-story unit where the fire started, they found a body. No information about the victim has been released.

Joe Meinecke with Tacoma Fire said about 12 people were displaced by the fire.

It is not yet known how the fire started.
