SHELTON, Wash. - Troopers are investigating after a man was killed in a crash in Shelton Wednesday morning.
The crash involved a car and a pickup on SR 101 at Shelton Matlock Road. The northbound lanes were blocked for 3 and a half hours.
The drivers were the only occupants in each vehicle.
The Dodge Dakota pickup was on the ramp from Shelton Matlock Road to SR 101. The Washington State Patrol said when the driver, a 47-year-old woman, tried to merge onto SR 101, she lost control, crossed into the northbound lane and was hit by a Toyota Camry.
The driver of the Toyota, 63-year-old Daniel W. Owens, was killed.
The pickup went over the guardrail and came to rest on the embankment. The driver was taken to Mason General Hospital.
Troopers said the driver of the pickup was traveling too fast for the road conditions.
