Officer-involved shooting in Normandy Park

A man was shot by an officer in Normandy Park after some sort of confrontation.

It happened near Sixth Avenue South and Marine View Drive Drive on Friday morning.

No officers were injured.

The Normandy Park police chief told KIRO 7 an officer was on patrol in a residential area and approached an occupied suspicious vehicle at 4:45 a.m.

The officer began talking with the man and then called for backup after two minutes.

The officer continued talking to the man, who didn’t comply with the officer’s orders, and the officer shot the man in the shoulder at 4:56 a.m.

Police recovered a handgun right outside the driver’s side door. Investigators said later the man was 35 and after being released from the hospital was booked for investigation of felony assault and felony harassment.

Neighbors said they awoke to sounds of gunshots and screaming.

The King County Sheriff's Office Major Crimes Unit will investigate. The officer is on paid administrative leave, which is standard procedure.
