Officer, driver injured in collision in Tacoma, police say

TACOMA, Wash. — A police officer and a driver were injured in a collision Friday afternoon in Tacoma, officials said.

Authorities said at about 4:44 p.m. the officer was headed westbound on South 56th Street and was making a left turn onto Cheyenne Street when a driver who was going eastbound collided with the officer.

The driver of the vehicle suffered minor injuries and was taken to the hospital, law enforcement said. A dog was also in the vehicle and was taken to a veterinarian out of an abundance of caution.

Officials said the officer suffered minor injuries and was taken to the hospital by another officer.

The collision is under investigation.
