Police: Woman arrested after dragging Burlington officer 30 feet with car

A woman was arrested after police said she dragged a Burlington officer 30 feet with a car after he tried to arrest her for multiple warrants Saturday afternoon.

Officers received information Sunday that the suspect was at an address in the 8800 block of Peavey Road in Sedro-Woolley. Police went to the area and were able to take her into custody without incident.

She was booked into Skagit County Community Justice Center on her outstanding warrants in addition to charges from Saturday's incident.

At noon on Saturday, an officer contacted a 29-year-old woman driving a pickup truck in the 900 block of South Burlington Boulevard. The woman had warrants for her arrest.

When the officer attempted to take the woman into custody, she drove away in her truck, dragging the officer on the ground behind the car for aboout 30 feet, investigators said.

More police responded and attempted to help the officer. They attempted to stop the truck, which then continued to accelerate, then ran a red light and hit another car that had two passengers inside, investigators said.

When officers went to give aid to those passengers, police said the suspect fled in the truck.

One passenger, a 78-year-old woman, and the 31-year-old officer were transported to Skagit Valley Hospital.

Burlington police later found and impounded the vehicle.
