Northbound I-5 in Ferndale open again after truck hits overpass

FERNDALE, Wash. — All lanes of northbound Interstate 5 in Ferndale have been reopened after being shut down due to a truck striking an overpass on Sunday, Washington State Patrol Trooper Rocky Oliphant said.

Oliphant said the incident happened on I-5 at Portal Way, where the underside of the overpass was hit, exposing the rebar.

Traffic was diverted to an offramp and back onto the onramp, causing delays.

The Washington State Department of Transportation called in engineers to inspect the damage.

Oliphant tweeted at 5:57 p.m. that the trucking company had been identified and is cooperating.

At around 7:24 p.m., WSDOT tweeted that all the lanes had been reopened but the shoulder was closed.
