No or low alcoholic drinks might be for you

We’re officially past our “30-day trial” for 2023, meaning February marked the beginning of the actual new year, at least for those of you who lost focus or were derailed from your new year goals.

If reducing or cutting alcohol consumption was a part of your new year’s resolution, I’ve got some relatively exciting news, especially if you’ve been missing or think you’ll miss some of the satisfaction that comes from “cracking a cold one” or having a drink with friends: NoLo beverages.

They’re pretty self-explanatory. No or low alcohol content beverages. The low alcohol requires alcohol by volume of less than 12%.

While these “mocktails’' in most cases are not creating a literal buzz, they are generating more and more attention across social media. If you’re wondering what’s the point or even the fun, think of NoLo’s like this: you’re able to have your cake - I mean cocktail and drink it too.

It’s no secret that the effects of alcohol both long and short term aren’t great for you and your health. By reducing the consumption of alcoholic beverages, you can also reduce inflammation in your brain, heart, liver, and/or pancreas. Other benefits include - but of course are not limited to - weight loss, fewer headaches/heartburn, and lower blood sugar.

If we’ve piqued your curiosity and you want to know more or get your hands on a NoLo beverage for your next happy hour, here’s a list of some noteworthy non-alcoholic beverages made across the Northwest:

  • Dry Soda Co. - Located in Seattle, Dry Soda Co. is a zero-proof “mocktail” company. Their original beverage is the “DRY Botanical Bubbly” made with four ingredients.
  • Rachel’s Ginger Beer - Made in Seattle, Rachel’s Ginger Beer is zero-proof with its main ingredients being fresh lemons, strong roots, pure cane sugar, and water. The company offers a variety of flavors.
