Firefighters in Port Angeles say multiple pets died in a house fire Wednesday night.
Crews were called to the home in the 400 block of South Valley Street at 9:30 p.m. to find heavy fire.
Because of limited staff, firefighters had to fight the flames from the outside.
When more fire crews arrived, they were able to also fight the flames from the inside and do a search of the home.
The person who lived in the home escaped due to a smoke detector, but their pets died in the fire.
The cause is under investigation.
