1 dead in officer-involved shooting in Auburn, police say

AUBURN, Wash. — A man is dead after being shot by an officer Thursday night in Auburn, police said.

At about 8:16 p.m., police were called to a report of a disabled vehicle in the 300 block of T Street Southeast, which was blocking the road.

When officers arrived at the scene, they discovered and confirmed a warrant for the arrest of a person at the scene.

Police said officers attempted to arrest the man for his warrant, but he fled on foot and officers chased him. The man then pointed a gun toward officers shortly after the chase began, authorities said. In response, an officer shot the man.

Lifesaving measures were immediately performed on the man, but he was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. A handgun was found on the ground next to the man, according to authorities.

No other injuries were reported.

The Valley Independent Investigation Team is leading the investigation.
