Motorcyclist dies in hit-and-run crash with semi on I-5 near Tumwater, troopers say

A motorcyclist died Friday morning after a hit-and-run crash on I-5 near Tumwater.

The crash happened in the northbound lanes at Maytown Road, south of Tumwater.

Investigators said a semi truck was traveling in the far right lane on I-5 when the bike entered I-5 and crossed over the gore point from the far side of the ramp.

The motorcyclist lost control, hit the rear of the semi and was run over.

He died at the scene.

Troopers said the motorcyclist was a 29-year-old man from Olympia.

Investigators are determining whether oil on the road or the bank of the ramp caused the driver to lose control.

In the afternoon, troopers said it was investigating the crash as a hit-and-run case.

Witnesses reported a second semi was involved and is believed to have struck the rider after the initial crash. That semi didn’t stop.

The investigation remains under investigation.
