Michael Bennett returning to Seattle to discuss new book

SEATTLE — Former Seattle Seahawks defensive lineman Michael Bennett will return to Seattle to discuss his new book, "Things That Make White People Uncomfortable," on June 18 at Temple De Hirsch Sinai in Seattle's Capitol Hill neighborhood.

Bennett, who was traded to the Philadelphia Eagles in March, was originally scheduled to speak about his book at an event in April.

However, the event was canceled when authorities in Harris County, Texas, issued a warrant for Bennett after a grand jury indicted him on a felony count of injury to the elderly.

Bennett quickly surrendered to authorities in Houston.

In response to the allegations, Bennett's co-author David Zirin, said on Twitter, "This is such an utter sham, an attack on an outspoken political athlete curiously timed 14 months later with his signing with a new team and release of a book." Click here to read more.

Last year, Bennett explained his book -- and its title -- this way: "I think the title is a just a title to start a conversation so people want to read. I think the book I'm focusing on is issues that I see that are important in America, and that are my view." Click here to read more about Bennett's book.

"He'll speak on problems of racism and police violence in the public eye, and will explore avenues for community action. He'll highlight the responsibilities of athletes as role models to speak out against injustice," Jonathan Shipley, marketing manager with Town Hall Seattle, said in a press release.
