Our previous coverage:

The Mega Millions jackpot has soared to $1 billion. The second-largest lottery jackpot in U.S. history is up for grabs Friday night.

The prize climbed from $970 million.

Although the jackpot keeps increasing, the odds of winning remain stuck at a miserable one in 302.5 million.

The $1 billion prize refers to the annuity option. Most winners opt for cash, which for Friday night's drawing would be $565 million.

A 7-Eleven store in West Seattle on 35th Avenue and Barton Street is considered to be one of the lucky places to buy tickets.

Two years ago, the store sold a $157 million ticket and it's not shy about advertising it.

Friday’s drawing for the record-high Mega Millions jackpot is happening at 8 p.m.

No one drew the numbers from Tuesday, swelling the grand haul from $667 million to $1 billion.

One person did get 5 out of 6 numbers in San Francisco. They’re taking home a cool $1.9 million.

Last year, the Mega Millions jackpot was bumped to a minimum of $40 million and the number of balls was increased from 15 to 25, according to CBS This Morning.

The result was larger jackpots and increased odds.
