WHITE PASS, Wash. — White Pass finally reopened Thursday after being closed due to high avalanche danger, a rockslide and a huge boulder that could have come down onto the roadway.
A rockslide blocking White Pass west of the summit on Tuesday left a large boulder exposed about 125 feet above the highway.
The Washington State Department of Transportation said the boulder is about 12 feet by 8 feet by 6 feet. It could dislodge due to additional snow, rain and a mix of freezing and thawing temperatures.
A specialized crew began working Wednesday to remove the boulder, which may need to be broken up into several pieces in order to be safely removed.
The road reopened Thursday afternoon.
And then there were none.
