Officer fires shots during fight in West Seattle

Detectives with the Seattle Police Department are investigating after officer opened fire on two men during a fight where guns were drawn Thursday night.

Police converged on an area near California Avenue SW and SW College Street near the Metropolitan Market at 10:30 p.m.

A plainclothes officer was on patrol when he saw a fight involving multiple men in the alley near the Admiral Pub. When he tried to break up the fight, at least one of the people involved in the fight pulled out a handgun and pointed it at the officer, according to Seattle police. The officer then drew his gun and fired shots at the men.

The group in the alley scattered and left the area.

"A man came running through the alley door and tagged his friend to leave. They both leave, hop in a car and speed off. We didn't hear anything but that's when all the cops and firefighters (arrived) and then we found out,” said Ben McIndo, who was in the area.

Police said one fleeing person dropped a gun and another person was injured and treated at the scene.

Investigators said they don't believe that anyone was injured by the officer's shots.

Police fanned out across the area and started searching for the other people involved.

They're also interviewing the person who was injured to find out what started the fight.
